VOILA!! My Project!

DECISIONS! DECISIONS!

So here is the piece of furniture I painted...funky style!

I always wanted a cool, funky, artsy piece of furniture...

and VOILA
(pronounced vwa-la),
now I have one!

Ok...don't freak out...it is bold and busy...but I think it has charm!
I decided to put this in my dining room for linens and things.
It goes well with my mustard walls.

But what decision do I need to make?

Well, I LOVE the chest of drawers and how they turned out...
however,
the bookcase part...not so much.

And the question is...to split them up or leave them together?
I have a nook for the chest of drawers
where I can hang a mirror over it...it looks good.
And I can put the bookcase in the corner with a lamp on top...but I would really need to add a bottom to it. And I think the bookcase part looks better
with it's "better half"...so I don't know!!!

Split them up or leave them together?

DECISIONS! DECISIONS!

PROJECT!!

I'm so excited!
Why?
Because I have a project... but not just any project... a creative project!!
Those are the best kind!

So... what am I going to do with this?
Don't know just yet...but I do have ideas.
It will go in my home...I'm just not sure where.
I have a couple or more places to put it...
but where I put it will determine how I paint it.

So... as I have been contemplating it's fate,
I have been trying to strip all the varnish off.
What a job!!
It's a stubborn varnish!
But I'm getting there.

The book case part is actually
turned upside down in the pic and
goes on top of the drawers.

Well, these are the before pics...I will post more as I go along.
We have had alot of ran and it has slowed
down my progress as I attempt to strip it's varnish outside.
But I will keep you posted!

Palette Knife Flower Painting

16x20 Canvas

It's funny...I had a repeat customer from eBay write in a ask me about this painting I had posted in October on my blog. So I told her I would list it this past Saturday. Since the economy went down, I haven't sold a thing and I quit trying to sell on eBay back in September/October. But then I decided to list some again in January. Unfortunately, I didn't have any interests on my listings, which kinda got me down. But, then I list this because of a past buyer's request and I have 4 watchers on it right now! Some may think..so what? But I think it's funny and great at the same time...I hadn't even planned on listing this. Now, I know it may not sell, but it makes me feel good that people are watching. It gives me encouragement...and I will take what I can get right now! So, thanks 4 watchers...you made my day!

These are some new paintings with a twist! They are magnets. They are painted on a small 3x4 canvas. Thought they might look nice on someone' s fridge...which the way the economy is going, it will probably be mine, LOL!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I just want to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone who checks in from time to time and to those who leave such encouraging words. I hope your holidays are Merry and Bright!

This is another wooden house painting. It didn't really come out the way I had envisioned it, but it does look good in the room I planned it for. I had a hard time with the brick background concept (that was in my mind) and making it come together as a whole. I used stucco texture to create the brick background, so once I started there was no turning back unless I retextured and wiped out the whole painting. So the brick had to stay. I am thinking about adding some words at the top but we will see.

Thanks to all for stopping by and leaving comments! I appreciate all the encouragement and support from everyone!
Thanks so much and Happy Holidays to All!!!

I saw these cute little curvy, whimsical wood houses in a magazine. I thought I would try to paint a couple in my own style... just to hang up in the house somewhere.

A little traditional folk painting inspired by my surroundings....

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Ok....so I haven't been painting. But I've been so distracted...yet so inspired! I love this time of year! I live in the mountains of Tennessee and the trees are just gorgeous!! So, instead of painting in my spare time...I've been driving around looking at all the color, taking pictures and soaking it all up. This beauty just overwhelms me with such awe and joy. The trees peeked early last week and their leaves are starting to fall now. But they are still so beautiful....just wanted to share....

A BLAST FROM THE PAST...

These are old calendar covers that I was commissioned for while I was in college. The drawings are mine, but the layout was done by somebody else. It was for a fundraiser that the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Alliance held each year. I was very honored that I was asked to do this. Just thought I'd share a blast from my past....

FACE PAINTINGS
I know that I have been painting alot of faces lately. I use to paint and sell some last year. But then I really started concentrating on my "sea creatures" for awhile. I guess I am back to faces, now!
Painting abstract faces gives me alot of freedom with lines and colors and creation. I love seeing what evolves from brush stroke to brush stroke and from color to color. I have been trying to teach myself to create a looser interpretation with my lines. And it's hard because I'm use to structured lines. So I'm sure you will see more and more faces as I keep painting along and learning. Thanks for all the compliments and support!

NOT FINISHED...BUT COMING SOON to ebay!

Thursday, July 3, 2008

This is the painting I am working on right now. I plan to put it on ebay, along with some other paintings, Saturday night. It measures 18x24 on stretched canvas. I used a stucco texture as always. As you can tell, it is very colorful! This painting is more elaborate than my usual work. It's taken me a couple of days to paint it, which I will complete it today.

OK...so my husband took me to play golf yesterday! He is a very good golfer. He was actually offered a golf scholarship for college a long time ago...that's how good he is. Me? I've never played or even attempted to. Now, we use to have a couple of acres that we lived on and we would play these chipping games. And I can definitely play some Tiger Woods Golf on XBox, but that's as far as it goes for me. So, it was really cold turkey for me yesterday. Well, needless to say, we quit keeping my score probably 3 to 4 holes in. But, that's OK! I mainly just wanted to learn to hit and get the feel of actually being on a course. However, it was really crowded!! And I felt like we were playing speed golf. I mean, there were some holes I didn't even play because I didn't want to hold the other golfers behind us up. So, I felt rushed. But, you know, I think I did OK! I never hit anybody or anything and my ball went straight most of the time. My sweet husband was very kind and would remind me that not only was I playing with man clubs, but I also was hitting from the men's tee box and not the women's. So...will I play again? Definitely! But, the driving range is where I will be heading next...first. So I ponder....can I conquer the world of golf? Well, I believe so. Who knows...maybe one day, I will turn pro!! lol :)

The TNT Bible Collection. My husband introduced me to these movies when we married and we have watched them over and over since. I LOVE them. They are movies made about the lives of Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, David...etc. Right now we are watching David. He had such a heart for the Lord and God saw that and blessed him. Joseph...another good one... is a tear jerker for me...I cry everytime I watch it. These movies follow the bible very well. The acting is good...especially compared to some of the older movies made of the bible. I'm so glad my husband had them and that we can watch them together and discuss them.

Hi! I thought I would write about some of my past jobs so that you can get to know a little bit more about me. I graduated from college in Retail Management/Consumer Science with a minor in business. And what did I do with my degree or what did I not do with my degree? Well, here it is.

After college, I began working as a visual associate (fashion merchandising) for different department stores in my home town. Meaning I set up store displays and department "shops". I eventually worked my way into a Visual Management position which were hard to come by in my small town. My degree helped me get better pay here and there but if I really wanted to do better and have a better chance of moving up the ladder in this field, I would have needed to move to a bigger city like New York. But, I didn't want to move and so, I didn't use my degree to it's full potential. I stayed in town and I eventually got bored and burned out and began pursuing other things.

Let's see, I have been a Children's Library Assistant which was fun for awhile, co-owned a business in lawn maintenance, and worked as a fashion stylist for TJX's (which owns TJ MAXX and other comp's) website. But after a year and a half, they shut that down and everybody lost their jobs. The next field for me was medical. A medical office that is....doing insurance follow-up and patient check in. I did great at all these different jobs . I am a very hard worker and I work very fast. I always got alot of praise from my managers. But I just wasn't happy or fulfilled....I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to be or do.

I wanted to do something creative. I missed it. I missed dealing with colors and composition and all that yummy stuff!! That is what makes me happy! SOOOO...here I am! I decided to try painting and I've had a blast doing it. It's what I want to be...an artist, a painter. But there are so many artist out there...can I do it? Can I do what I want to do? We are a two income family and since I've been painting, my steady income I use to have has ceased. It's hit and miss for me right now. But, my husband is wonderful and very patient and supportive. However, I put alot of pressure on myself to succeed. And I tend to get discouraged very easily about the whole thing. I am all about setting goals and when it takes longer to achieve them than expected, I get so frustrated.

Don't get me wrong, I am amazed and honored for all the support and sales I do get. It renews my hope all the time and it's what makes me keep pursuing this dream, my goals, my passion. And I try to think on all the blessings I have received through this process of becoming a painter and making a living doing it. So.. thanks to all those who support my art. I am going to keep on keepin' on and we will all see where it leads....good or bad! Hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me and my story. Be blessed!

Just a few pics from vacation I wanted to share with you. We had a wonderful time!! In fact, I think I'm having withdrawals!! If I could live on the beach...I would. I like the beach better than the mountains. Don't get me wrong...the mountains are beautiful, especially in the fall. But, I'm a beach girl! I guess one of my dreams would be to have a place on the beach and a cabin in the mtns to escape to... incase of hurricanes! And then I could have the best of both worlds. Dreams are nice aren't they? Maybe one day.....

Conch Shell

Ok...this painting was on ebay and had some bids. But the person who won it decided to purchase 2 other paintings instead. Sooooo, I am going to relist it either Thursday or Friday. It is painted on an 11x14 canvas board and is unframed. Starting bid will be $30.00. If you like it, come check it out in ebay and place a bid!!

This is my first conch shell that I've painted. I used a more impressionistic style on this one. It's a little bit different than my usual style and I really liked the way it turned out!

Flowers In A Vase

Here is a painting I did of flowers in a vase a couple of months ago. I still have it and I'm thinking about hanging it in my home. I don't know yet. It is very colorful. I love color! It inspires me to paint. I love painting subjects that I can add alot of color to. Sometimes color invokes my emotions and that is why I use alot of bright colors...they make me happy. I hope they make others happy, too! I always imagine alot of my paintings on white walls at a beach house or condo somewhere. Just adding that needed splash of color to catch the eye. And then that thought makes me want to go to the beach!!

That's another love of mine. White fluffly sand and the sound of the ocean waves with those occasional white puffy clouds rolling by. Ok...back to reality. The weather where I live is crazy sometimes. We've had really nice warm spring days, around 75-78 degrees the last two weeks and then we have sleet and snow today! Craaaazy!! But interesting! Well, enough babbling....back to painting! Be blessed!
